网友OutlandishLaziness:(2012 Linsanity) Undrafted sophomore, Jeremy Lin, catches fire in February, averaging 24.6 PPG, 9.2 APG, 4.1 RPG, & 2.4 SPG on 49.7/35.3/71 shooting splits over 10 games.
The Knicks went 8-2 over this span. They had lost 11 of their last 13 prior, and Lin was told he'd be out of the league if he didn't show something.
He scored 136 points in his first 5 starts, the most ever by a player.
He averaged 3.6 PPG on 40.0% shooting in the few games before "Linsanity" and 2.6 his rookie year.

Anyone remember ESPN getting shamed for putting out the headline “Chink in the armor” when Linsanity died back down?

That’s a story almost as crazy as Linsanity. The guy that wrote it swears it wasn’t intentional. He got fired, Jeremy Lin actually reached out to take him to lunch and tell him he didn’t think he meant it to be racist, and then the guy ended up becoming a Catholic priest.
ExpeditiousTraveler
It certainly paints him as a sympathetic guy. It sounds like it was late at night and he was just on autopilot and wasn’t thinking. Jeremy Lin reaching out and taking him out to lunch was a nice gesture. It sounds like it took a lot of weight off his shoulders and may have saved his life.

Linsanity is one of these NBA moments that you had to witness yourself to understand its gravity.
I would totally understand if newer fans couldn't grasp what's so special about all this. When you just look at the numbers - it's nice, but is it really that extraordinary?
But when you were there...trust me, it was truly magical.

I listened to the post interview. Tyson chandler was like... Lin wanted ISO... and Tyson was like "OH I SEE WHAT YOUR DOING". It was so interesting to see how much tyson respected Lin considering he just got a big contract and recently won a champions title.

I can't remember if it's that buzzer beater or Kobe's 81 point game but the top youtube comment was "The NBA - where everything good happens against the Raptors" or something like that.

It was Asian heritage night or whatever. You know damn well Asians nba fans all over the world were obviously celebrating Linsanity, and Toronto has a ton of Asians.

With us getting Chandler, Melo and Stat (but not really doing much damage in the playoffs), then going to Linsanity was so exhilarating. My love for basketball grew so much more from Linsanity since the Yao days. When I see an Asian in professional sports I gotta support the hell out of them (which is why Matsui is still my athlete of all time). Everyone at school was talking about Linsanity, even my 60 year old high school French teacher who’s never watched basketball before knew about it lmfao. Those few weeks were much needed as the Knicks were losing a lot of games in a row, their energy was at a season-low, they needed that new spark. They said “fuck it, let’s throw this d league kid in and see what he does”, and it didn’t start well, but out of nowhere after a couple more games, he just started going off. The Chinese from flushing started flooding MSG and the crowd was so damn electric.

I remember being at a barbecue place here in Brazil, all i knew about basketball were Kobe, Dwight and Rose, they had a game randomly on TV, i guess no football to play instead and it was Jeremy Lin carrying the knicks, the arena going crazy, everyone and their mother had a cardboard cutout with Linsanity written on it, i just assumed he was one of the top players in the league.
Cue like, 5 years late when i started actually following the sport, checking Lin's bball ref page and being very confused.

I live in the NY tristate area, and let me tell, in this corner of the world, Linsanity was EVERYWHERE. I remember you would see it on TV (any channel), then get in the car and hear about it on the radio (any station), then get to the store and see Lin jerseys everywhere (on shelves and on people), I mean it was inescapable. Now I might be exaggerating it in my memory, but that’s legit what it felt like at the time (I would have been 19 I think). I still have crystal clear sense memories of where I was during that period of time and Jeremy Lin being that fucking dude.
And where I grew up there were hardly any Asian people, it was so much bigger than an “Asian” thing. You had Puerto Ricans, black people, white people, everyone rocking Lin merch, all over the bandwagon. It was just something so magical that tapped into our collective consciousness, this true underdog story that everyone could relate to.
