FiveThirtyEight has no love for Melo

I love how his market value is negative.
Like he should be paying his next team to play. That would be amazing
A team can be more subtle than that. They
can offer something like "$5 mil per year but you get fined 10k every time
you shoot a pull up long 2 with more than 5 on the shot clock". Still end
up getting him to pay you to play at the end of the day by the end of the
season but without being as blatantly disrespectful about it lol
Bruh, even with the $30mil we just gave him
last season and his wife's money, those fines would bankrupt him by Christmas.
Some tanking, cash-strapped teams might
like the idea of Melo paying them 300k for a roster spot.

Their whole analytics system is literally
called CARMELO which is why this is so damn funny

it stands for "Career-Arc Regression
Model Estimator with Local Optimization"
It's a backwards acronym it's literally
Melo's name that they turned into an acronym.
They named it that as a play on
"Elo", which was originally a chess rating system. FiveThirtyEight
has their own power ranking formula for each sport they dubbed "Elo,"
in honor of the chess ranking system. This is a further play on that name.
Edit: to the people not happy that I didn't
go deep enough into the etymology:
The "Elo" chess ranking isn't
just an arbitrary name or acronym; it is in fact named after the renowned,
English band, "Electric Light Orchestra"

He's just washed man, dude was a force in
his prime tho
He was a “never gonna win with him but
those stats are nice” player in his prime.
People saying Melo was just a stats guy
obviously didn't watch him. His game was nice. One of the nicest offensive
players in a long, long time. He was two games from taking that 2009 Nuggets
team to the finals and his supporting cast was veterans well beyond their
primes. Folks like AI, Billups, etc. The Lakers team they pushed to six games
was a dominate 65-win team. They would have destroyed the Magic in the finals.
The Melo comments in this sub can't even be
taken seriously anymore. It's just a meme at this point. You can't even mention
his name without the top voted comments just being low-effort karma grabs about
him sucking. Yea, he's not great anymore. But please, let's stop pretending he
wasn't a top five player in the league.

Billups was an All-Star the year they went
to the WCF and the year after.
Broussard on the Melo situation: "Melo
is going to have to accept 'I'm not the superstar anymore, I'm going to have to
be a role player or maybe come off the bench', or he's going to go out like

I thought he could have a Ray Allen-Celtics
esque year with the Thunder. Boy was i wrong.
To be honest he was doing well on catch and
shoots, 37.2% from three on 5 attempts, last season he shot 42% in catch and
shoots, so thinking he would be Ray Allen like wasn't out of the question
If he was doing only that he would be
playable, but he takes 10 other dumb shots, i would legit forbid him to dribble
the ball and just put him on 3 point spots, but his ego too big
[–][OKC] Steven Adamsbasketballandpuppies 97
He was hit and miss, with more hits, before
Roberson's injury. Then, when Robes went down he got exposed bad on defense.
Then the "miss" games happened more and more. You could see him
basically defeating himself, except he has zero self awareness and instead of
focusing on something besides shooting he just kept chucking.
It was frustrating because at the start of
the season he'd crash the boards for an easy bucket to get going. I don't know
if he got tired, injured, or just mentally defeated but he just quit doing
anything but chucking up long 2's and ill advised three pointers.
That said, he'd be a great fit on the
Melo could be a great piece for a
championship team if he was willing to play a sixth-man role, bringing scoring
off the bench when the starting offense is resting.
Also, if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump
their asses when they hop.

The saying Lin returning to the Knicks would
be more welcome than Melo....... As a Knicks fan I agree.
