[Duffy] This was Shaun Livingston in 2008. He was recovering from perhaps the worst basketball injury ever. People thought he’d never play again. He was talking about where he’d be in 10 years. It’s been 10 years. He’s now a 3x NBA champion.

here's the injury for those too young to have seen it.
torn ACL, torn PCL, sprained MCL, torn lateral meniscus, dislocated patella and tibio-fibular joint.
basically his leg exploded.

probably the most disgusting basketball injury I have ever witnessed. it's a miracle that he is even playing, especially at this level.

DO NOT WATCH THIS if you ever want to jump again

Could you explain what happened to someone who doesn't have the heart to watch the video? Like did he have contact with someone while jumping? Did he land wrong?

Nothing will beat Kevin Ware for me. I saw that shit live and it was horrifying

Good god. That one still haunts me. Didn't a part of the bone even shot out of the skin due to the force it broke with?
Such a freak injury.
[–]ChargedUp445 37 指標 4小時前
Yes it does. He lifts his leg up and you see the bone sticking out while the rest of his leg dangles lifelessly.

People never thought he would play again? Shit.... the doctors told him he may have to amputate his leg and may never walk again. Fuck what people thought. That’s nothing compared to what DOCTORS TOLD him. He is an amazing story. I grew up just 20 minutes from him.

I think I read that right after the injury, one of the last things he remembered before passing out was one of the medical staff saying they're going to do everything they can to save his leg.
lol fuck. Could you imagine being thought of as being one of the future all-stars in the league one day, and then being told you may lose your leg that night.
[–][DAL] Dirk NowitzkiSayter 212 指標 7小時前
he tore/dislocated almost everything in your leg that stabilizes and protects a major artery. if he moved the wrong way then that leg is gone. testament to modern medical abilities that he still has it.

At least 3 rings and at least $65 million career earnings by 2020. Bless up.

Dam i feel like he should be richer.

He did take a paycut in terms of his market value when he signed his last contrast, to remain with the Warriors.
[–][GSW] Draymond Greenjthc 14 指標 4小時前
I was pretty surprised. I thought he would try to get a bigger contract to make up for all his lost earnings.
[–]Purplecstacy187 34 指標 4小時前
I don’t think he cared about that as much as being able to play where he obviously has a big impact on a team that can contender every year. He is one of those guys that just loves basketball and I think that injury enforced that a lot in him.

Yeah, the dude was on 8 teams in 6 years before landing with the Warriors, and got married to his longtime girlfriend the same offseason he re-signed. The guy was ready to sacrifice some money for a bit of stability.

I think about this pretty frequently whenever I watch him play. I thought he was done. I figured if he did come back, it might be a charity case where someone takes him on to fill out a roster and make for a good story. I'm continuously amazed when I watch what he's become, particularly when he slips in one of those springy dunks.

Or that dirty crossover where Livingston sent Harden's soul out of his body for a moment

He hasn't aged at all!

He's one of the few dudes in sports I feel genuinely happy for. No matter what you think about the warriors you can't hate on a guy who came back from hell, adapted his game and became an integral cog to a championship team. I think no other player has ever done what he did and that begets a lot of respect.
[–]Bladex10 599 指標 8小時前
This dudes story isnt talked about enough. One of the greatest comeback stories in pro sports history IMO.
[–]Warriorsthrowthatoneawaydawg 179 指標 6小時前
And he's a really nice guy too. Typically when the warriors do mini camps and autograph signings, Livingston is there, the big 5 typically aren't.

This is what makes it just that much better. I've been a warriors fan for years, even when they were shit (honest) and then I found out that ym favourite player, Iguodala, was joining them? Fuck me I was pumped.
Then, I found out my second favourite player Livingston was joining them? And he's a factor? Oh man, this has been the greatest thing ever for a Livingston fan and for everything good that happens to this guy I am so psyched.
