[Forsberg] Parish on Brad Stevens: "I'm not saying Brad Stevens should not be getting praise for the job that he's done because I feel like he's done an outstanding job. I'm just saying, the amount of praise he's getting, you'd think he won a ring or 2. They don't give Kerr that much love. Come on."
"I think he gets a little too much praise, but I like what he's doing," Parish said on Sirius XM NBA radio. "They're giving him all the love like he won three or four championships. Come on now. Win something first, with all the love he's getting. Now granted, don't get me wrong, he's a solid coach, I'll give him that. The love he's getting from the media, you'd think the Celtics won two or three championships. You would think."
Later Parish added, "That don't mean that you're not great or good just because you never won a championship. That's not what I'm saying. I'm not saying Brad Stevens should not be getting praise for the job that he's done because I feel like he's done an outstanding job. I'm just saying, the amount of praise he's getting, you'd think he won a championship or two. They don't give Steve Kerr that much love. Come on."

Kerr gets plenty of love especially in that 73 win run. Difference today is that Brad is winning with rookies and role players with a ton of roster turnover. Kerr has 4 All-NBA type of players.

I feel like he doesn't sometimes...Partly because Luke Walton coached like 1/3 of that 73 win season + Mike Brown coaching part of the playoffs last year which helped solidify the narrative of "The Warriors can be great without him" or "Anyone can coach the Warriors"

imo Kerr should get a lot of credit for making Klay and Draymond into All NBA players.

Mark Jackson called Steph and Klay the best shooting backcourt in NBA history when he coached them, years before they became it.

And Harrison Barnes & Jordan Crawford ISOs
And hockey style line substitutions
And endless Curry high PnR
And Curry & Klay averaging north of 35 MPG (38.2 for Curry in 12-13)
And refusal to call timeouts to kill runs
Mark Jackson deserves all of the credit for making the Warriors an elite defensive team, that cannot be denied. But with the sheer offensive talent they had, the Warriors with Jackson as coach were still just outside of the top 10 in offensive efficiency.

By excelling in Kerr's system. Neither player was nearly All NBA level under Mark Jackson and neither can create their offense on a star level. It took Kerr to utilize their abilities to their max potential in a system that made them thrive. Kerr's ability to use Draymond as a facilitator in transition and get him open looks and his ability to create a system which allows Klay to thrive off the ball doesnt get nearly as much credit as it should

Stevens deserves all the credit in the world for the defense and cohesiveness of this team, which is where NBA coaches really make a difference. Defense is a combination of system and effort. Cohesiveness is keeping 15 guys who have to spend way too much time together from killing each other, and getting them to put team goals above individual goals (this is more difficult than you think.)
But Kerr deserves credit for both of these things as well. People say "the team still won with Walton and Brown on the sidelines" but in-game coaching is only part of what being a head coach is all about. Most of the work is done before you even hit the court.
And Kerr has sustained this effort and success with the same core for a few years now. Pat Riley said the greatest threat to a winning team was "The Disease of More." Players want more minutes, more shots, more money, more credit and that inevitably tears apart good teams. The Warriors have mostly avoided that. Yes, they have unselfish players, but if they're not happy with Kerr, this wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it has.
That's when we'll see how successful Stevens really is. The Celtics only kept four players from last season which set back their "Disease of More" timeline, but as Tatum and Brown mature, as their players get accustomed to success, we'll see how good he is at holding this group together.

All he is saying is that in his eyes the hype around Stevens should be toned down a bit until he wins a ring. Parish says flat out he thinks Stevens is doing "an outstanding job". Parish is an old man and the quote was a bit wordy, but I don't think what he's saying is controversial when getting to the heart of it.

This is ridiculous.
Steve Kerr has so much more talent than what Stevens is working with that it's not even a fair comparison.

The core improved year over year with and after Jackson. I don't think you can attribute Steph and Klay becoming the best shooters ever to Kerr.

Kerr let steph do steph things. Mark Jackson had Steph setting pin-down screens in the paint to get run over by a big and draw an offensive foul.
Two vastly different coaching philosophies.
