In his last two seasons at age 35 and 36 the lakers made the finals back to back (winning in '72 and losing in '73) Wilt was on the bench for a total of only 32 minutes in those two playoff runs (32 games)

Yeah thats the thing that changed my view about Wilt. Fuck the points and boards that can be chalked up to pace, the level of competition etc. But playing season after season basically without sitting on the bench? That's just unreal.
Imagine what that guy could do now with all the advanced data on lineups and bench rotations. Like you have a problem like OKC does the team is really bad when Westbrook sits, with Wilt you dont have that problem, ever (he never fouled out of a game in his career either). Plus he's going 10-15 minutes a game against backup guys

In Wilt's 1962 season he averaged 48.52 minutes a game. There were only 80 games back then, so at 48 minutes a game there were 3840 total minutes in that season. Now accounting for overtime games, of which they had 7, including a double OT game and a triple OT game, it adds a total of 50 minutes to the season. Wilt played a total of 3882 minutes that season, meaning he missed only 8 total minutes of playtime throughout that entire season including OT games.

He never fouled out in his career. He felt he was paid to be on the court playing so he was more judicious when he got in foul trouble.

It's worth pointing out, though, that the level of effort he had to exert was nothing compared to LeBron, or even Hayes for that matter.
If you watch his old games, specifically those early on, it was like watching a high school senior against middle schoolers. Sure he's running around, but he's not taking any abuse on a near daily basis like LeBron.
So really, if there was a way to calculate for attained stress on the body per minute (obviously something incalculable), LeBron would be far and away the leader in, I don't know what you'd call it, "body-miles per minute"?

While LeBron is obviously ridiculously durable, this chart is a combination of his durability and his excellence.
First, LeBron was excellent enough to get huge minutes as a rookie. If you look at seasons 3-14, LeBron is essentially tied with Dirk, Kobe, Garnett, and Joe Johnson in regular season minutes.
Second, LeBron was excellent enough to repeatedly take his teams deep into the postseason. For example, Gary Payton played just 500 fewer regular season minutes than LeBron through 14 seasons, but LeBron has nearly 4000 extra minutes in the postseason. And LeBron began his career the year after the first round was expanded, so he's basically the only star on the chart who's played a full 14 seasons under the expanded playoffs.
Also, it should be noted that he appears to be more of an outlier than he actually is due to the Y-axis starting at 35000 rather than 0.
